RFQ File – What is .rfq file and how to open it?

RFQ File Format

An RFQ file is a plain text file that stores search data for RoboForm, a password manager and form filler application. It contains a list of search terms and associated URLs, allowing RoboForm to quickly search for and populate web forms with relevant information. RFQ files are typically generated by RoboForm’s “SearchCard” feature, which enables users to save search queries and access them later from within the application.

RFQ files follow a simple text-based format that consists of one or more lines, each representing a search term and its corresponding URL. The format of each line is as follows:


search_term|URL


For example, an RFQ file might contain the following lines:


google|https://www.google.com/
amazon|https://www.amazon.com/
stackoverflow|https://stackoverflow.com/


When RoboForm encounters an RFQ file, it parses the file and stores the search terms and URLs in its internal database. When a user performs a search within RoboForm, the application checks the database for matching search terms and displays the associated URLs as search suggestions. By utilizing RFQ files, RoboForm streamlines the process of searching and accessing web forms, enhancing user productivity and efficiency.

Opening RFQ Files with RoboForm

To open an RFQ file, you need to have RoboForm, a password manager software, installed on your device. Once installed, follow these steps:

1. Open RoboForm on your device.
2. Click on the “File” menu.
3. Select “Open” and browse to the location of the RFQ file.
4. Select the RFQ file and click “Open.”

The RFQ file will now be opened in RoboForm. You can view the saved login credentials and other information stored in the RFQ file.

Alternative Methods for Opening RFQ Files

If you do not have RoboForm installed or encounter issues opening the RFQ file using RoboForm, you can try the following alternative method:

1. Rename the RFQ file extension to “.txt.”
2. Open the renamed file in a text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit.
3. The text file will contain the login credentials and other information stored in the RFQ file.

Note that this method will only allow you to view the contents of the RFQ file in text format. Editing or modifying the information within the file is not recommended.
