EASM File – What is .easm file and how to open it?
EASM File Extension
eDrawings Assembly File – file format by Dassault Systemes
EASM (eDrawings Assembly File) is a file extension developed by Dassault Systèmes for storing 3D assembly data in a lightweight format. It is commonly used for sharing and collaboration purposes in the engineering and manufacturing industries.
Overview of EASM Files
EASM files are proprietary file formats developed by Dassault Systèmes for storing and sharing 3D assembly models. They are primarily used with the eDrawings software, a lightweight CAD (computer-aided design) viewer and collaboration tool, enabling users to view, measure, and markup assembly designs without requiring the full-featured CAD software that created them.
EASM files contain a compressed representation of the assembly structure, including component geometries, relationships, and annotations. They are designed to be lightweight and portable, allowing easy sharing and collaboration among team members and stakeholders. The assembly structure is defined using a hierarchical tree structure, where components and subassemblies are nested within each other to represent the overall assembly.
Opening EASM Files with eDrawings Viewer
To open an EASM assembly file, you’ll need the eDrawings Viewer software. This free utility can be downloaded from Dassault Systèmes’ website or through the Microsoft Store. Once installed, simply launch eDrawings Viewer and select “Open” from the File menu. Navigate to the folder containing the EASM file and click “Open”. The assembly will load into the viewer, allowing you to view, rotate, and measure its components.
Opening EASM Files with SOLIDWORKS
If you have SOLIDWORKS software installed, you can also open EASM assembly files natively. Launch SOLIDWORKS and click “File” > “Open”. In the “Files of Type” dropdown menu, select “eDrawings (*.easm, *.eaf, *.eprt, *.edrw)”. Navigate to the EASM file and click “Open”. SOLIDWORKS will import the assembly into its workspace, where you can further edit and modify its components.
eDrawings Assembly (EASM) File Format
An EASM file is an assembly file created using Dassault Systèmes’ eDrawings, a lightweight CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software used for viewing, marking up, and sharing 2D and 3D designs. EASM files contain a hierarchical representation of an assembly, including individual parts, their respective positions, and assembly constraints. They allow engineers and designers to collaborate on assembly designs, review parts in context, and make annotations without access to the original CAD model.
EASM files are a compact representation of assembly information, enabling efficient viewing and sharing. They include features such as view dependencies, which automatically update views based on changes made to the assembly; view filters, which allow specific components to be hidden or shown; and markups, which facilitate communication and collaboration. EASM files also support PMI (Product Manufacturing Information), enabling annotations, dimensions, and tolerances to be embedded within the file for reference and quality control purposes.
