History
The development of WordPerfect began in 1978 when Bruce Bastian and Alan Ashton founded Satellite Software International (SSI) in Orem, Utah. The company released the first version of WordPerfect in 1982 for the Data General Nova minicomputer. In 1984, SSI ported WordPerfect to the IBM PC, where it gained significant popularity.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, WordPerfect continued to evolve with the release of new versions, each introducing enhanced features and capabilities. In 1994, Novell acquired SSI and WordPerfect. Novell subsequently sold WordPerfect to Corel Corporation in 1996.
Under Corel’s ownership, WordPerfect has undergone several updates and revisions. The latest version, WordPerfect X9, was released in 2021 and offers a modern user interface, improved collaboration tools, and enhanced document formatting capabilities.
