The genesis of Teradata can BE traced back to the 1970s when Citibank embarked on a project to develop a system capable of managing and analyzing its massive transaction data. In 1979, a team LED by Dr. Phil Canter at Carnegie Mellon University collaborated with Citibank to create the first version of Teradata.

Teradata Corporation, the company behind the technology, was founded in 1984 and subsequently acquired by NCR Corporation in 1991. In 2007, Teradata Corporation became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NCR and continues to develop and enhance the Teradata database platform.

Throughout its evolution, Teradata has consistently pushed the boundaries of data management and analysis.
