What does Internet Explorer mean?
Internet Explorer (IE) is a discontinued Web browser developed by Microsoft. It was first released in 1995 as part of the Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 operating system. IE quickly gained market share and became the dominant web browser for Windows users. By 2002, IE had captured over 90% of the global browser market.
IE introduced several important innovations to web browsing, including support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Dynamic HTML (DHTML), and Active X controls. It also played a key role in the development of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards for web development.

History
Internet Explorer was first released in 1995 as part of the Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 operating system. It was based on the Spyglass Mosaic web browser. IE quickly gained market share and became the dominant web browser for Windows users.
In 1997, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 4.0. This version of IE introduced several new features, including support for CSS and DHTML. IE 4.0 also marked the beginning of the “browser wars” between Microsoft and Netscape.
In 1999, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 5.0. This version of IE introduced support for Active X controls. IE 5.0 also became the default browser for Windows 98.
In 2001, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 6.0. This version of IE was released with Windows XP and became the most popular version of IE ever. IE 6.0 introduced several new features, including a tabbed browsing interface.
In 2006, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7.0. This version of IE introduced several new features, including support for RSS feeds and web slices. IE 7.0 also included a new security feature called Protected Mode.
In 2009, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8.0. This version of IE introduced several new features, including support for HTML5 and CSS3. IE 8.0 also included a new security feature called SmartScreen Filter.
In 2011, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9.0. This version of IE introduced several new features, including support for hardware acceleration and the new Chakra JavaScript engine. IE 9.0 also included a new user interface called the “Metro” UI.
In 2013, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 10.0. This version of IE introduced several new features, including support for WebGL and the new Microsoft Edge browser engine. IE 10.0 also included a new user interface called the “Modern” UI.
In 2015, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 11.0. This version of IE was the last major update to the browser. IE 11.0 introduced several new features, including support for HTTP/2 and the new ES6 JavaScript standard.
In 2022, Microsoft announced that Internet Explorer would be discontinued on June 15, 2022. Microsoft Edge is now the default browser for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
