What does Home Key mean?

The Home key is a keyboard key that is typically used to navigate to the beginning or top of a document, webpage, or application. The Home key is also used to provide quick access to certain functions within specific applications. The Home key is often located next to the End key and the Page Up and Page Down keys. In word Processing programs, the Home key moves the cursor to the beginning of the Current line, while in spreadsheets, it moves the cursor to the top-left Cell. To move it to the beginning of the file, press the Home key while holding down the Control (Ctrl) key. In web browsers, the Home key moves the scrollbar to the top of the page, while in file browsers, it moves the cursor to the root directory.

History

The Home key was first introduced on the IBM Model M keyboard in 1984. The Home key was originally located on the left-hand side of the keyboard, next to the End key. In the 1990s, the Home key was moved to the top-left corner of the keyboard, where it is still found on most keyboards today. The Home key has become a standard feature on keyboards, and it is used in a wide variety of applications.
