Delphi

Delphi is a proprietary object-oriented programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) originally developed by Borland and now owned by Embarcadero Technologies. A cross-platform compiler, Delphi can produce standalone executables for Microsoft Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android.

What does Delphi mean?

Delphi is a high-level Object-oriented programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) for rapid application development. It was originally developed by Borland in 1995 but is now owned by Embarcadero Technologies. Delphi is known for its visual component library, which makes it easy to create graphical user interfaces (GUIs). Delphi is also known for its cross-Platform compatibility, which allows developers to write code that can be compiled for multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Applications

Delphi is used to develop a wide variety of applications, including desktop applications, mobile applications, Web applications, and cloud applications. Delphi is particularly well-suited for developing applications that require a high degree of user interaction, such as data entry applications, business applications, and multimedia applications.

Delphi is also used to develop high-performance applications that require a high degree of concurrency, such as game development, simulation, and financial applications. Delphi’s cross-platform compatibility makes it a good choice for developing applications that need to be deployed on multiple operating systems.

History

Delphi was originally released in 1995 under the name Borland Delphi. The first version of Delphi was based on the Object Pascal programming language, which is an extension of Pascal. Delphi quickly became a popular programming language due to its visual component library and cross-platform compatibility.

Version 7 of Delphi was released in 2002 and included significant new features, such as support for .NET and XML. Version 10 of Delphi was released in 2007 and included support for Unicode and generics. Version XE of Delphi was released in 2010 and introduced new tools for mobile development.

Version 11 of Delphi was released in 2013 and included support for High DPI displays and Windows 8.1. Version 10.3 Rio was released in 2018 and included support for the latest Windows 10 features and the new Android 64-bit compiler. The latest version of Delphi, Version 11.2 Alexandria, was released in 2022 and includes support for the latest Windows 11 features, macOS 12 Monterey, and Linux Ubuntu 22.04.
