BullGuard was founded in 2002 by Theunis van Rossum and Edward Willemse. The Company‘s initial focus was on developing antivirus software for personal computers. In 2010, BullGuard was acquired by AVG Technologies. AVG continued to develop and sell BullGuard products as part of its cybersecurity suite. In 2016, AVG Technologies was acquired by Avast Software. Avast continued to offer BullGuard products as a separate line within its portfolio.

In 2021, Avast acquired BullGuard’s intellectual property and technology, integrating it into its own cybersecurity products. BullGuard’s brand and product line were discontinued, but its technology continues to be used in Avast’s security solutions.
