History

The concept of AR originated in the early 1960s with the development of head-mounted displays (HMDs). However, significant technological advancements occurred in the 1990s, particularly with the introduction of the term “augmented reality” by Tom Caudell and David Mizell.

In the early 2000s, the first commercial AR applications emerged, primarily in the fields of entertainment and military training. The release of the ARkit and ARCore Software development kits by Apple and Google in 2017 marked a significant milestone, enabling the development of AR applications for smartphones and tablets. Since then, AR has witnessed rapid growth and adoption across various industries, fueled by advancements in hardware, software, and user interfaces.
