History
ATI Technologies was founded in 1985 in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The company initially focused on manufacturing graphics adapters for the IBM Personal Computer. In 1991, ATI introduced its first graphics accelerator, the Mach 8, which featured a dedicated video memory and accelerated graphics performance. This was followed by the Mach 32 in 1992, which was the first graphics accelerator to support Microsoft Windows.
Throughout the 1990s, ATI continued to innovate and release new graphics cards, including the Rage series and the All-in-Wonder series, which combined a graphics card with a TV tuner. In 2006, ATI was acquired by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a leading manufacturer of computer processors. AMD continued to develop and produce ATI’s graphics products under the Radeon brand.
In recent years, AMD has announced that it will discontinue the ATI brand and will fully transition to using the Radeon brand for its graphics products. This move is aimed at streamlining the company’s product portfolio and consolidating its efforts under the Radeon brand.
